Colin Campbell - honorary Professor of nutritional biochemistry at Cornell University; winner of the National Institute of health, USA; first in the list of the 25 most influential figures in the field of nutrition; the prize winner of the American Institute for cancer research "For significant achievements in scientific activity in the field of research and understanding of the relationship of nutrition and cancer", author of more than 300 scientific works. This world famous scientist in 2004, together with his son wrote the book "the China study", which has gained immense popularity all over the world. The book is devoted to issues of health and nutrition. It proves that the proper nutrition, provides an opportunity to maintain health and to get rid of many diseases.
Why children from wealthy families were ill more often? The book "the China study" Colin Campbell wrote on the basis of long-term scientific and practical researches. The fact that soon after graduation the young scientist was appointed as the technical coordinator of the American project to improve the nutrition of children in the Philippines. He was assigned to study the reasons for the unusually high incidence of liver cancer among local children. As it turned out, this was due to the frequent use of nuts, peanuts, which are due to improper storage frequently fungus mold aflatoxin. However, Campbell drew attention to the strange fact: most often liver cancer was sick children from wealthy families, whose diet was much animal protein.

Why in wealthy families children were ill more often?

Dr. Campbell came across an article published by researchers from India, which stated that if one group of rats to keep on a diet high in protein (20%), and another low (5%) and then to feed them aflatoxin (fungus mold), then in the first group of cancer sick of 100% of the animals, while the second most animals will remain healthy.
Then Dr. Campbell decided to seriously address the problem of the relationship between nutrition and development of tumors. Back in the USA, he began experiments on animals, which lasted for about three decades.
The scientist paid attention to the fact that carcinogenic effects were overwhelmingly animal proteins. In contrast, the majority of plant proteins such as wheat and soybeans, had no considerable impact on the growth of tumors.

More meat - and more diseases

To test this hypothesis has helped unique epidemiological study.
In the 1970-ies the Prime Minister of China Zhou Enlai was diagnosed with cancer. This senior official ordered the establishment of a national study to find out how many people in China die from certain forms of cancer, and possibly to develop measures for prevention of the disease.
To identify the relationship between dietary patterns and the frequency of cancer, a project was planned joint research scientists China, England, Canada and France. This large-scale work lasted for 20 years, were involved 96% of the population.
It turned out that in those populated areas, the inhabitants of which the meat was rare product on the table, much less met and malignant diseases. In addition, these territories were observed low incidence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, dementia, and renal stone disease. In those areas where the level of meat consumption by the population increased, soon began to grow and the level of cholesterol in the blood, and with it the incidence of cancer and other chronic illnesses. I must say that after such a shocking factors Colin Campbell went on vegan (vegetable) natural diet of whole foods, and proved the correctness of our conclusions personally. And many of his patients.
In his book he recounted the mechanism of the harmful effects of animal protein in the human body and development in it of various diseases.
Food is the most powerful weapon against diseases
Professor formulated the idea that our most powerful weapon against cancer and other diseases is the food we eat every day. From malnutrition kills more people than Smoking, accidents and other factors related to lifestyle or environment. The best that the state can do to prevent the growth of disease and suffering is to recommend to eat fewer animal products, more whole plant products that are not (or are minimally) industrial processing.

The positive effect of a plant-based diet

Professor Campbell notes that the positive effect from plant-based diet is expressed in other important factors: the increase in life expectancy, a young appearance, reduction of excess weight and to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood. Moreover, vegetable diet is an effective method of treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system. It also reduces the risk of cancer. Campbell in his book expresses full confidence that the consumption of plant foods allows you to save the sight in old age, and to avoid many diseases such as diabetes. The use of vegetable proteins and reducing the amount of animal protein in the diet helps lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of stroke, impotence, kidney stones, kidney disease, Alzheimer's, arthritis and any problems with digestion.
The author in his book notes (and points to specific examples)that people who consume mostly herbal products with minimal heat treatment, may substantially reduce the risk of development of dangerous disease or completely get rid of chronic diseases. He is sure that legumes, vegetables, fruits, grains and herbs provide a good health and a positive effect on longevity.
Kempell says that no multivitamin preparations cannot substitute herbal products. The latter are composed of many biochemical components involved in complex reactions in the body and ensure all life processes.

Principles of Professor Campbell

Here are some of the important principles that the scientist has outlined in his book.
Vitamin supplements are not a panacea for health.
-Almost all the nutrients better represented in vegetable than animal products.
-The genes themselves do not cause disease. They start functioning only after activation, or expression, and food plays a key role
in determining which genes will show "good" or "bad".
-By using the power can be largely control the adverse effects of hazardous chemicals.
-The same power that prevents the disease at early stages (before diagnosis)can also stop its development or cure at later stages (after diagnosis).
-Food, which is useful in the case of one chronic illness, and will help in preventing many other diseases.
"Biological relationship between food and health is extremely complex, but the basic idea is still simple. Recommendations so simple,
I can formulate them all in one sentence: eat whole plant products, minimizing the consumption of refined
food, additional salt and oil-free," - writes in his book scientist.
