EYE DISEASES : PERIOSTITIS AND CARIES OF THE WALLS OF THE ORBIT (PERIOSTITIS CARIES ET ORBITALIS) - etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms and course of, recognition, prediction and prevention
Most often syphilis, tuberculosis, trauma. There is an inflammatory thickening of the periosteum, bone necrosis.
Symptoms. Most affected region of the orbit, in tuberculosis - lower-outer (orbital bone), in syphilis - top. The edge is thickened, painful, reddened skin over it. TB gives the abscess, opened outwards and leaving a fistula, in the depth of which is felt naked bone (sequestration). Syphilis, too, sometimes gives the decay with the breakthrough of pus out. Often the syphilitic periostitis observed thickening of the orbital walls without the formation of abscesses. The defeat of the walls of the orbit lead to ectoplasma, chemosis, cause pain deep in the orbit.
For chronic. The result can be an ectropion, paralysis of muscles, optic nerve atrophy, etc.

A hot compress. In syphilis energetic specific treatment, rubbing at the edge of the orbit grey mercury ointment. In tuberculosis - curettage of the fistula, the opening of the abscess and removal of bone sequestration.
