EYE DISEASES : ECTROPION SPASTIC (ECTROPIUM PALPEBRAE SPASTICUM) - etiology, pathogenesis, symptoms and course of, recognition, prediction and prevention
Etiology. Inflammatory diseases of the conjunctiva and cornea, mainly in children.
The pathogenesis. A spasmodic contraction of the eyelids and consequent venous and lymphatic stagnation in connection with edema (chemosis) of the conjunctiva.
Symptoms. Sharp photophobia and blepharospasm, Severe thickening and convulsive contraction of the eyelids (mostly upper). The lids are rotated so that the edge of them and part of the conjunctiva are looking forward.
For depending on the caller causes, is usually prolonged. In the corners of the eyelids painful cracks that supports spasm of the eyelids and worsening the condition.
To exclude paralytic ectropion.
Treatment of the underlying disease. For protection everted conjunctiva from drying out - ointment. Cracks in the corners of the eyelids sear 2 - 5% silver nitrate (to protect the cornea!). Eye ointment.
